Writing a Mediation

important

to mediate does not mean translating the german original word for word!
→ Rather explain the contents of, for example, an article to someone, who can't read it.

  • only use the information of the given text, no own knowledge
  • clearly present important information
  • no irrelevant info for the task
  • no personal comments (unless task invites to; e.g. in an E-Mail to a friend)
  • careful with expressions and concepts specific to germans

Possbile target text types

E-Mail:

  • subject line
  • personal address (greeting)
  • intro, main part, conclusion, final greetings
  • informal (contractions allowed: "you'll" instead of "you will")

Blog entry:

  • headline, welcome youre readers
  • introduction (lead in, focus, source), main part, conclusion (outlook), call for comments
  • informal (contractions) → speicifcally talk to readers

Article:

  • headline
  • introduction (lead in, focus, source), main part, conclusion (outlook)
  • formal (no contractions)
